Milan Fashion Week – Burberry Prorsum – F/W 2011

Burberry continued its e-commerce strategy and offered the coats and bags up for sale immediately following the sale. I don’t know about anyone else, but if I’m going to spend upwards of $2,000 I need to try that shit on. But what would I try on here? There was a weird psuedo-Russian vibe going on here. The coats and bags were clearly the focus since that’s what they were trying to sell. All other articles of clothing took a backseat to the accessories and coats. The coats themselves for me fell anywhere between non-offensive to atrocious with a few sweaters thrown in. If you watched the show, some of those models could barely walk in those coats because they seemed so stiff. It looked like they were walking around in starched shells.

What say you?

Cute if not boring.

Ridiculous. But at least editorial-worthy.

The two above actually made me cringe. Cowprint fur collar?? BLURGH

Meh.

Look how it’s bunching up everywhere! Even those ridiculous aviator coats from last fall seemed easier to walk in.

And making it rain on the runway? PUH-leeze – gimmick gimmick gimmick. I’m surprised they weren’t trying to tell those transparent rain covers too. Overall, the drive to sell immediately after runway seems to be the driving force behind the shows for Burberry and while that’s not terrible, I don’t know how effective that is with a collection that is semi-ready to wear.

Wanted to love it, but left with an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Moreso following the love it seems to be getting.

London Fashion Week – S/S 2011 – Burberry Prorsum

It’s like the men’s show + candy-colored belts!

I like the accessories, they definitely add a feminine edge to the rockabilly aesthetic of the menswear line shown in Milan. But it does look tacked on in a few places no?

There was a lot going on – animal print, military, rockabilly, neon colors – a bit of a mindfuck.

The studs + colors + animal prints came off a little to literal crocodile for me.

If you watched the livestream, the girls clearly had issues walking in the shoes and leather pants for some reason. This poor girl took a spill.

I have to say, fashion may not be practical – but I tried on the coats for winter and they were already pretty heavy, add those studs on, and I can’t imagine this being a comfortable spring/summer for the Burberry girl.

Gorgeous right? When it works, the elements work well and is actually quite tough/elegant, but it’s a bit overwhelming to have a neon-reptilian-studded-military-trenchcoat-barf.

And what was this?

Milan Fashion Week – Burberry Prorsum

Here’s what GQ.com has to say:

This season, it’s full-on Mods vs. Rockers at Burberry. Christopher Bailey sends out the traditional trenches (cut a bit longer at times) and pairs them with country-gent Wellies and olive drab jersey-knit pants; but just when you think he’s gonna swan around in the heather and lilac all day, he chases that world off the runway with studded and swaggering black leather motorcycle vests and gladiator-battle-ready jackets cut badass, tight, and spoiling for a fight. (And speaking of gladiators, check out the gladiator Birkenstocks.)

I’m with them until the second sentence. Wtf? Swan around in heather and lilac? uh okay.

Trenchcoats with mesh sweaters, Motorcycle Rocker Jackets with Gladiator Sandals? Not my favorite Prorsum collection, but very much consistent with the name ‘Prorsum’. I always love the styling at Burberry shows – guys always look great! I’m really digging the shorter cut jackets.

You can order pieces from the S/S 2011 now at Burberry.com (how does this make sense?? Why can’t all fashion houses just show and then sell for the current season?)

So the Fall 2010 show has long since passed, but for some reason I am *obsessed* with this piece. I know I could never pull it off in a million years, but it left a very strong impression.

00o00 blog posted a close-up (lucky) of the button detail –

Gorgeous!
