Alexander the Great / Vogue US May 2011
Timed with the upcoming Savage Beauty exhibit at the MET, Vogue has a lovely (if not a little reminiscent of a past editorial in Vogue by Grace Coddington) editorial featuring some key looks from McQueen.

Paris Fashion Week – F/W 2011 – Alexander McQueen
Sarah Burton presents a collection showing that she is slowly establishing her own voice. There’s something fairy tale-esque (and borderlineĀ renaissanceĀ fair) that I am having mixed reactions too. The level of details can’t be beat, but I can’t decipher if her looks are repetitive from last season, or are simply elements of her style. Either way, the airy quality to the garments is still beautiful. The full ruffled skirt is amazing.

Alexander McQueen S/S 2011 Campaign

The butterflies have left the collar and taken to the skies in the latest McQueen campaign. There’s a sublime beauty about it with Lindsey Wixson modeling the latest frock from Sarah Burton. You really notice the amazing details when it is made in grayscale, no?

5 Fashion Moments of 2010
It’s almost 2010 so let’s take a look at my Top 5 fashion moments of 2010!
5. Tom Ford Womenswear
Tom Ford finally debuted his long-awaited foray into womenswear in a extremely under-wraps fashion show, with only Terry Richardson allowed to take photographs. Glamour at its finest, it was definitely one would expect from a man who places taste and refinement above all else.
4. Gap Logo Fiasco

Never before has such an branding-related uproar been more visible to the public than the advent of the new Gap logo. Now reverted to it’s former glory(?) this incident showed that social media is more of an influence in trends now than we’d like to admit.
3. Lanvin H&M
Alber Elbaz has always said he would not make any Lanvin diffusion lines, and after much teasing by H&M, it was shocking to see that Lanvin would be their next collaboration. After an extremely large marketing ramp-up, Lanvin made it’s collaboration available to the public late November. I personally got a piece of the collection but was ultimately disappointed with the actual pieces. Nevertheless, this has people wondering ‘what will the next collaboration hold?’
2. LMVH vs. Hermes
Luxury leather goods, and holder of the coveted Birkin bag found themselves under siege by the luxury powerhouse LMVH. Bernard Arnault’s company was suddenly discovered to be holding approximately 17% of Hermes stock (later around 20%) much to the dismay of Hermes. How this plays out will definitely be a spectacle in 2011.
1. Alexander McQueen

The suicide of Alexander McQueen early this year caught everyone by surprise. Sarah Burton has stepped up to fill his shoes quite elegantly, but it is undeniable that McQueen’s passing will leave a hole in the fashion world. His looks were beauty taken to the extreme and a level of theatricality that has no match in the fashion world.
Paris Fashion Week – S/S 2011 – Alexander McQueen
All eyes are on Sarah Burton, and she definitely proved herself worthy to succeed McQueen. It feels like a McQueen a bit restrained with a more feminine edge to it. Sometimes a touching a little bit on the Wiccan-Renaissance Fair side of things, but it is still a very beautiful collection with pretty details. How major is that butterfly collar? It is pretty spectacular how she takes elements from past McQueen collections but comes out with her own unique voice.

Milan Fashion Week – Alexander McQueen S/S 2011
There’s something beautifully gloomy about these clothes – like Tim Burton Sweeney Todd. The grayscale color palette punctuated with reds is gorgeous and is a really evocative collection of looks. It borderlines on costumes, but manages to make it all relateable.

Sarah Burton Succeeds McQueen
Sarah Burton has been officially named the new creative chief of the Alexander McQueen label. She was the late designer’s deputy designer – seems like a logical choice to me! So much for the rumors that Gareth Pugh would be taking over š She looks pretty badass doesn’t she? Let’s see what she turns out!
